چکیده

The lack of consensus on the mechanisms underpinning low salinity waterflooding (LSWF) oil recovery has affected successful implementation LSWF in carbonate reservoirs. Many investigators link improved observed from to wettability alteration. Several models are proposed literature study alteration mechanism. However, reliability some is being contested, as they struggle accurately predict trend. This aims develop a new model that can performance processes. We propose indicator (WI) integrates three (surface charge alteration/?-potential, calcite dissolution, and ion exchange) which, suggested, dictate was implemented UTCHEM, which coupled with PHREEQCRM, used simulate several experimental recoveries. results produced simulations consistent data. outcomes this show adsorption crude still possible even when oil-brine rock-brine interfaces have same polarities ?-potentials. further demonstrate not always caused by alteration, but also other factors such rock quality physical displacement. outcome indicate early injection brine significantly improve recovery. Findings understanding process. Moreover, be applied design planning projects estimate LSWF.

Modelling of wettability alteration processes in carbonate oil reservoirs

Previous studies have shown that seawater may alter the wettability in the direction of more water-wet conditions in carbonate reservoirs. The reason for this is that ions from the salt (sulphat, magnesium, calsium, etc) can create a wettability alteration toward more water-wet conditions as salt is absorbed on the rock. In order to initiate a more systematic study of this phenomenon a 1-D math...

A Laboratory Investigation into Wettability Alteration of Carbonate Rock by Surfactants: The Effect of Salinity, pH, and Surfactant Concentration

Wettability alteration is an important method for increasing oil recovery from oil-wet carbonate reservoirs. Chemical agents like surfactants are known as wettability modifiers in carbonate systems. Oil can be recovered from initially oil-wet carbonate reservoirs by wettability alteration from oil-wet to water-wet condition with adding dilute surfactant and electrolyte solutions. This paper inv...

Modelling how incorporation of divalent cations affects calcite wettability–implications for biomineralisation and oil recovery

Using density functional theory and geochemical speciation modelling, we predicted how solid-fluid interfacial energy is changed, when divalent cations substitute into a calcite surface. The effect on wettability can be dramatic. Trace metal uptake can impact organic compound adsorption, with effects for example, on the ability of organisms to control crystal growth and our ability to predict t...

Calcite surface structure and reactivity: molecular dynamics simulations and macroscopic surface modelling of the calcite-water interface.

Calcite-water interactions are important not only in carbon sequestration and the global carbon cycle, but also in contaminant behaviour in calcite-bearing host rock and in many industrial applications. Here we quantify the effect of variations in surface structure on calcite surface reactivity. Firstly, we employ classical Molecular Dynamics simulations of calcite surfaces containing an etch p...

Wettability of Steam-water-rock Systems

A method has been developed to infer the wettability of steam-water-rock systems based on the relationship between permeability and capillary pressure by Purcell. The Purcell model was extended to two-phase flow to verify whether the wettability is a function of water saturation. The results calculated using the experimental data showed that the wettability index in drainage was greater than th...
